About me

My name is Tania Vrancic and I trade under the name of ‘Kittilä by Tania Tuominen’, my maiden name.

I began selling my contemporary ceramics in June 2011 at the Handmade Markets in the convention centre.  Later in the year I began selling at Shop Handmade in Civic and the Undercurrent Market at the Portrait Gallery as well as being featured at the Strathnairn Homestead Gallery in their Magic Christmas exhibition Nov-Dec 2011.  I have also participated in a group exhibition with the Strathnairn Members association at the Belconnen Arts centre called Back to BAC curated by Peter Haynes in March 2012.

In June 2011 I was the winner of a Judges Merit award at the student teacher exhibition at the Canberra potter’s society and have taken classes there on and off since 2005 as well as a workshop at ANU ceramics in 2012.

My 2012 range is called ‘Women of influence’.  A range of contemporary hand built ceramics in Southern Ice porcelain with a fresh look at the art of crochet.

Most of the crochet doilies used to imprint the porcelain were made by my Finnish grandmothers over 30-50 years ago.  I have named the pieces after the women in my family who have most influenced my creative life. They all have interesting Finnish names such as Maija Liisa and Iida Vappu.   A short narrative of four of these women is included with each tea light or vase so the customer can appreciate and share in the sentimentality of the work.
